ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for Jordan on Tuesday night to attend the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem in Amman on August 5, the Foreign Office said.


According to the statement, Dar is set to attend the meeting at the invitation of his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al Safadi.


The meeting will bring together foreign ministers from the Arab League and a group of Islamic countries, including Pakistan, to formulate a “unified position” on the fast-deteriorating situation in occupied Jerusalem, it added.


During the visit, the attending foreign ministers will also call on King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan.


Dar is also scheduled to hold side-line bilateral meetings with participating foreign ministers to exchange views on regional developments, including Palestine, as well as other issues of mutual interest.


Dar's participation reflects Pakistan's principled support for the Palestinian people and its commitment to the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, the ministry said.


During the visit, the DPM/FM will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause. He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with participating Foreign Ministers and exchange views on regional and international developments.


Pakistan and Jordan enjoy historical relations based on mutual trust and cordiality. Amman was the fifth state in the world to recognize the independence of Pakistan, while the formal diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in August 1948.


Earlier in June, FM Dar also undertook a two-day visit to the Hashemite Kingdom to participate in the high-level conference “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza.”


The conference aimed to identify and develop a collective response to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Foreign Office statement had said earlier.
