ISLAMABAD: India’s main opposition party, Congress, while raising the issue of several deaths due to the consumption of contaminated water in the states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, has criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Congress in a post on X shared the speech of Deputy Leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, on the issue on Monday.

In his speech, Tiwari raised the issue that in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and Indore, Madhya Pradesh, several people have died due to drinking contaminated water.

“I would like to draw your attention to a serious issue, which is related to humanity and every person in India. Gandhinagar is in Gujarat. The minister is also from Gujarat.”

He said that he wanted to ask the minister what steps the government is taking to improve the quality of groundwater.

“Please inform the House about this”, he said.

“Water is extremely essential for the life of all of us, but the government is feeding people poisonous water,” Tiwari said.

“Corruption in this department is at its peak; the government should seriously consider this,” he said
