Pakistan, Kenya agree to double bilateral trade in five years

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations and agreed to double the volume of bilateral trade over the next five years, said a statement issued at the end of the Second Session of the Pakistan-Kenya Joint Trade Committee held in Islamabad on Thursday.


According to the Federal Ministry of Commerce statement, the session was co-chaired by the Secretary of Commerce of Pakistan, Jawad Paul, and the Principal Secretary of Kenya’s State Department for Trade, Regina A Ombam. 


Representatives from various government departments and trade-related institutions from both countries also attended.


The Joint Trade Committee reviewed ongoing trade cooperation and discussed measures to enhance commercial engagement between the two countries. 


Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding economic ties and promoting sustainable trade growth.


During the session, Pakistan and Kenya agreed to strengthen cooperation in several priority sectors, including market access, export promotion, customs cooperation, investment, pharmaceuticals, banking, information and communication technology, tourism, and industry.


"The two sides also discussed collaboration in sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical standards, animal quarantine, plant protection, and trade dispute resolution mechanisms," added the statement.
