A handwritten note has been posted on the X account of Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, whom Israel’s military says it has killed, while Iran has not confirmed this news.

Originally in Persian, the note is titled: “On the occasion of the funeral ceremony for the brave members of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

It further states, "Their memory will always remain in the hearts of the Iranian people, and these martyrdoms will strengthen the foundations of the Islamic Republic’s army within the structure of the armed forces for years to come. I ask Almighty God to grant these dear martyrs the highest ranks.”

The note was published moments after Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported Larijani would release a message soon.

“Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani is going to release a message on Tuesday, March 17,” the agency reported.

“The message from Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani will be made public within the next few minutes,” it said.

Trump demands allies help secure Strait of Hormuz

Published March 17, 2026 | 00:08 GMT

President Donald Trump on Monday criticized the lukewarm response to his call for world powers to send warships to escort tankers through the strait, which normally carries a fifth of global crude oil, demanding a more enthusiastic response.

"We strongly encourage the other nations to get involved with us and get involved quickly and with great enthusiasm," Trump told reporters at a White House event.

Trump demanded that US allies help secure the Strait of Hormuz, but European powers pushed back on a possible mission to reopen the vital waterway shut by Iran in response to US-Israeli attacks.

Trump said he thought Britain and France would get involved in efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz -- but only reluctantly.

Japan, Australia, Poland, Spain, Greece, and Sweden also distanced themselves from any military involvement in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump told The Financial Times on Sunday that it would be "very bad for the future of NATO" if the allies refused to help, and said Monday that he had asked to delay a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping by a "month or so" over the issue.
