ISLAMABAD: Poland’s Border Guard has announced the detention of 45 illegal migrants, including Afghan nationals, who illegally crossed into the country from neighboring Lithuania over the weekend, according to Hasht e Subh Daily newspaper.

In a statement posted on X, on Monday, the Polish Border Guard said the migrants were apprehended at various locations along the Poland-Lithuania border between June 13 and June 15. Authorities stated that none of the detainees possessed valid documents allowing them to stay in or transit through Poland.

According to the Border Guard, those detained included citizens of Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan. The agency did not provide a detailed breakdown of the number of migrants from each nationality.

During the operation, officers also arrested a Ukrainian woman suspected of facilitating the illegal transportation of four migrants. She faces charges related to migrant smuggling, officials said.

The detentions come amid continued efforts by Polish authorities to strengthen border security and curb irregular migration routes through the European Union. Poland has previously reported the apprehension of undocumented migrants, including Afghan nationals, attempting to enter the country through neighboring states.

The Border Guard said investigations into the latest cases are ongoing.
