ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi awarded Pakistan&#39;s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, the &quot;Outstanding Diplomat Medal&quot; on Monday, making Hashmi the first serving ambassador in Beijing and the first Pakistani ambassador to receive the honor. According to the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing, it was also the first time China&#39;s foreign ministry has introduced a formal awards program for foreign envoys. The ceremony was held at China&#39;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Chinese capital, according to a press release from the Pakistan embassy. Seven other current and former ambassadors received the medal at the same ceremony. Former diplomats from Russia, Cambodia, Chad, and Uruguay, along with sitting ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, and Colombia, were among the recipients. Wang Yi presented the award in recognition of Hashmi&#39;s diplomatic record and his role in advancing Pakistan-China ties. In his remarks, the Pakistani ambassador dedicated the award to his diplomatic team, his family, and diplomats from both countries who have shaped bilateral relations across generations. He credited Wang Yi directly for his guidance in deepening Pakistan&#39;s ties with China. He also acknowledged the cooperation of the Chinese Foreign Ministry&#39;s Asian Affairs Department. Hashmi pointed to several decades of joint crisis response between the two countries as a measure of the relationship&#39;s depth. This includes the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, and shared responses to global public health emergencies. He described the Pakistan-China friendship as &quot;higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel.&quot;

China is North Korea&#39;s top trading partner and a vital source of diplomatic, economic and political support. &quot;China and North Korea should, while firmly safeguarding their respective sovereignty, security and development interests, further enhance communication and coordination in major international and regional affairs,&quot; Wang said during a meeting with Kim in Pyongyang on Friday, Xinhua reported. &quot;China is willing to work with North Korea to... maintain close communication and interaction, promote practical cooperation, and infuse new contemporary meaning into the traditional friendship between China and North Korea,&quot; Wang said. Wang&#39;s visit comes as the administration of US President Donald Trump mounts a push to revive high-level talks with Pyongyang, eyeing a potential summit this year, potentially during Trump&#39;s visit to Beijing in May.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan&rsquo;s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing on Saturday to co-chair the 7th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers&rsquo; Strategic Dialogue with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Foreign Office said in a statement.&nbsp;According to the statement, Dar was received upon arrival by China&rsquo;s Special Representative on Afghanistan Ambassador Yue Xiaoyong, Pakistan&rsquo;s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, and senior officials of the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing.&nbsp;The Foreign Office said the visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs. Dar is the first foreign dignitary to visit China in 2026.&nbsp;Describing the significance of the engagement, the statement said the Foreign Ministers&rsquo; Strategic Dialogue is &ldquo;the highest consultative mechanism between Pakistan and China,&rdquo; providing a structured platform to review the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.&nbsp;&ldquo;During the dialogue, the two sides will review ongoing collaboration, identify new areas of partnership, and take forward the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Pakistan and China,&rdquo; the Foreign Office said.&nbsp;The two foreign ministers are also expected to announce a series of initiatives and commemorative activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China in 2026, the statement added.&nbsp;The visit forms part of regular high-level exchanges between Islamabad and Beijing and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral ties, while reaffirming mutual support for regional peace, stability, and sustainable development, the Foreign Office said.
