ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Syria on Thursday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their support for regional peace and stability, as the two countries discussed tensions across the Middle East and South Asia, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani during his official visit to Pakistan, according to a statement on X.

The two sides reaffirmed their "longstanding brotherly ties" and agreed to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

"The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including Palestine, the Golan Heights, Afghanistan, the situation in South Asia, and developments in the Middle East," the statement said.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, while Syria's FM welcomed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

He praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability, including its efforts to de-escalate tensions amid the US-Iran conflict, the statement said.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
