ISLAMABAD: The US Ambassador in Islamabad, Natalie A Baker, has assured support for promoting foreign investment in Pakistan Railways and agreed to explore opportunities in railway infrastructure and modern technology.
The assurance from the US ambassador came during a meeting with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, in Islamabad on Friday, said a statement from the ministry.
The statement added that the discussions between the two focused on potential US investment in locomotives, wagons, freight operations, and railway technology.
“Both sides also agreed to expand the decades-long cooperation between Pakistan Railways and an American company, the statement further said.
The federal minister for railways held a detailed meeting with the US ambassador to discuss Pakistan-US relations and cooperation in the railway sector.
According to the statement, the minister stated that Pakistan Railways is introducing a Track Access Policy for global partners and invited American investors to participate in the sector.
The minister said, “254 American-built locomotives in Pakistan Railways are a shining example of bilateral cooperation.”
He further highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing regional connectivity projects linking Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Nokundi, and Gwadar, aimed at boosting regional trade and connectivity across Central Asia.
