ISLAMABAD: A day after staging a large demonstration in Amritsar, India’s “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP) has announced peaceful protests in Bengaluru on June 14 and Jaipur on June 15, respectively.

The CJP began as a satirical movement targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and has rapidly expanded into a nationwide campaign. At Amritsar Gate on Saturday, protesters demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In posts on X, the group urged supporters to attend the upcoming rallies and “raise their voice.” Famous Indian actor, director and activist Prakash Raj confirmed he will join the Bengaluru protest.

The movement gained momentum last month after remarks by Supreme Court judge Surya Kant, who compared some unemployed youth to “cockroaches,” sparked public outrage.

Supporters embraced the term as a symbol of resilience, helping the group amass more than 22 million followers on Instagram.

Beyond the slogan, the CJP’s platform highlights unemployment, rising living costs and calls for greater government accountability.

Its mix of self-deprecating humor, memes and street protests has helped the group build a broad following, with many parody accounts adopting the cockroach as a satirical political symbol.
