Renshaw in, Labuschagne out of Australia's ODI squad for India series

ISLAMABAD: Australia have unveiled their white-ball squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against India, with Marnus Labuschagne dropped from the ODI setup and Matt Renshaw handed a potential debut in the 50-over format.

Labuschagne’s omission comes after a poor ODI run, with his highest score in the last ten innings just 47. The decision will allow him to continue his strong Sheffield Shield form, where he scored 160 against Tasmania, as he aims to reclaim his Test spot.

Renshaw earns a place in the ODI squad following impressive performances in List A cricket, including a century for Australia A against Sri Lanka in Darwin earlier this year. The left-hander has excelled in the middle order in 50-over cricket, averaging 48.68 since November 2021 with six centuries. He has also developed into a reliable T20 middle-order batter.

Mitchell Starc returns to the ODI side after last playing in November 2023, bolstering Australia’s pace attack. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey will miss the opening ODI in Perth to play in South Australia’s Sheffield Shield match, while Josh Inglis, who has recovered from a calf strain, is available for both formats.

Only the squad for the first two T20Is has been announced, with workload management expected for the remaining matches due to the upcoming home Test season and Ashes preparation. Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable as he continues recovering from a broken wrist, and Cameron Green has been rested from the T20Is to focus on red-ball cricket.

The three-match ODI series will be played in Perth on October 19, in Adelaide on October 23, and in Sydney on October 25. The first two T20Is are scheduled in Canberra on October 29 and in Melbourne on October 31, with the remaining three matches set for early November.
