ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Malaysia’s views converge on nearly all important issues.
He said this while addressing a joint press conference along with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, in Putrajaya on Monday.
Sharif thanked the Malaysian prime minister for the warm welcome he received on his arrival.
He said that the Malaysian prime minister is a leader of great qualities, with outstanding leadership.
“Today, we had a productive meeting at the delegation level,” Sharif said. The Malaysian prime minister has announced $200 million quota for meat exports from Pakistan to Malaysia, Sharif said.
‘Stop bombing Gaza’
Pakistan stands to benefit from the Malaysian experience, the Pakistani premier said. He said Pakistan wants to join hands with Malaysia to have mutually beneficial projects.
Sharif said Malaysia shares friendly, historic ties with Pakistan.
Sharif, while appreciating Prime Minister Ibrahim said: "You have shown exceptional courage, resilience, and patience throughout your political career. The way you are focused on building your great country into one of the strongest economies in the region and across the globe speaks volumes about your leadership, vision, and dynamism."
The Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, welcomed Prime Minister Sharif. He said our joint aspiration is to further enhance cooperation in all fields.
Ibrahim said Malaysia appreciated Pakistan’s stance on the Palestinian issue. He said Israel must stop bombing Gaza; it is a clear position taken by Arab countries.
Bilateral meeting
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting on Monday (6 October 2025) to discuss Malaysia-Pakistan ties and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, said a joint statement published on the website of Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both leaders agreed to reconvene the Joint Commission Meeting at the level of the foreign minister.
Malaysia expressed its intention to expand palm oil exports to Pakistan. Both leaders acknowledged the growing global demand for halal products and services, and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of halal, the statement said.
Guard of honor
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif also inspected the Guard of Honour at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office (Purdana Putra) on Monday.
Exchange of MoUs
Prime Minister Sharif and Prime Minister Ibrahim also witnessed exchange of memorandums of understanding between Pakistan and Malaysia, said an official post on X.
‘The Script’
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also launched the Urdu translation of "Script" , a book written by Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said an official post on X.
Three-day visit
Prime Minister Sharif arrived in Malaysia on Sunday for a three-day official visit aimed at deepening Pakistan’s economic and digital cooperation with Kuala Lumpur, his office said, as the two nations look to strengthen trade, investment, and technology partnerships across Southeast Asia.
PM Sharif was received at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysia’s Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and Pakistan’s High Commissioner Syed Ahsan Raza Shah.
The prime minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
