Pakistan Army vows continued action against India-backed terrorists operating from Afghanistan

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir presided over the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi on July 6, 2026 (ISPR)

ISLAMABAD: The Corps Commanders’ Conference expressed serious concern about the use of Afghan territory by Indian-sponsored militant groups Fitna al-Khwarij and Fitna al-Hindustan to launch attacks inside Pakistan, and resolved to continue operations against terrorists originating across the border.

“Chaired by the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the 276th Corps Commanders’ Conference at GHQ in Rawalpindi discussed the country’s overall security environment, operational preparedness and regional developments,” the ISPR statement added.

The forum maintained that lasting peace and stability in the region depended on preventing the use of Afghan Taliban-controlled territory by what it called Indian terrorist proxies, and added that Pakistan retained the right to defend its people against terrorism.

The conference reiterated that the Armed Forces would continue intelligence-based operations against terrorism emanating from Afghan Taliban-controlled territory under the ambit of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq.

Besides kinetic operations, the forum underscored the need for strengthening governance structures in restive areas, with a focus on public service and welfare, while breaking what it described as the terror-crime nexus operating under vested political patronage.

The participants also observed that after what the military termed a comprehensive defeat in Marka-e-Haq, there had been increased reliance on externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns aimed at creating unrest in Pakistan.

The forum condemned all forms of state-sponsored financing, facilitation, and support for proxy groups, reaffirming that attempts to destabilize Pakistan through hybrid means would be countered with strategic clarity and firm resolve.

Reviewing the regional security landscape, the conference appreciated Pakistan's role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability. It reiterated the country's commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, adherence to international law, and enhanced regional cooperation to address shared security challenges.

The forum also reviewed developments related to the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) and reaffirmed the guidance issued by the National Security Committee on April 24, 2025.

It expressed the Armed Forces' commitment to support all necessary measures to ensure the availability of Pakistan's rightful share of water in accordance with government directives.

The participants strongly condemned what they described as ongoing human rights violations and unilateral demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reiterating Pakistan's diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people.

The forum stated that lasting regional stability depended on granting the people of Jammu and Kashmir their right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir directed commanders to expedite implementation of the military's multi-domain transformation plan in line with the evolving character of warfare.

He also instructed commanders to maintain the highest standards of vigilance, operational readiness and professional excellence, while ensuring integrated responses to conventional, sub-conventional and hybrid threats in defense of Pakistan's sovereignty and national interests.
