ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Canada held the 6th round of bilateral political consultations, with both sides expressing satisfaction over the steady growth of relations, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Saturday.


The ministry said the consultations highlighted recent substantive interactions between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Canada’s Foreign Minister, which had provided strategic guidance and momentum to the partnership.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen ties.


Recognizing untapped potential in the relationship, Pakistan and Canada expressed readiness to improve the implementation of existing agreements and explore new avenues for cooperation. 


The statement emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and economic cooperation, including greater support for business communities, facilitation of trade delegations, and enhanced institutional linkages.

 

Areas of cooperation 

Key areas for cooperation identified during the consultations included trade and investment, agriculture and agri-tech, mining and minerals, energy, climate change, artificial intelligence and information and communications technology, skilled workforce development, education and research, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. 


Both sides underscored the central role of investment in achieving sustainable and mutually beneficial growth and agreed to encourage the private sector to explore emerging opportunities.


The two sides also exchanged views on the evolving global and regional environment and discussed key multilateral issues of mutual interest. 


They agreed to maintain regular consultations, expressing confidence that sustained engagement would lead to new progress in the bilateral partnership.
