ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday condemned the blast at a Chinese restaurant in Kabul that took place on Monday afternoon, in an official statement his social X.
The President expressed grief, “over loss of lives” while also wished a “speedy recovery to injured.”
The statement said, “he pays tribute to [Chinese] risking their lives for [Afghanistan’s] development & urges full implementation of Doha accord.”
Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said the explosion occurred at the Chinese Noodle restaurant, which he said mainly served Chinese Muslims.
Six Afghans and one Chinese citizen were killed in the explosion in central Kabul, the police representative said.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun demanded the Afghan interim government to provide safety and protection to Chinese citizens, during a news conference.
"China has made urgent representations with the Afghan side, demanding that the Afghan side spare no effort to treat the injured, further take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens," Jiakun told the news conference.
The Islamic State armed group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, the SITE Intelligence Group reported, saying it was a suicide attack targeting Chinese nationals.
