ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) have located the wreckage of a missing private cargo aircraft in the Arabian Sea after an extensive search operation lasting more than 12 hours, said a statement of Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) on Wednesday.

According to the PAA statement, the wreckage of the K2 Airways cargo Boeing 737, which lost contact on Tuesday night, was found approximately 53 nautical miles south of the coast of Ormara.

The PAA confirmed that naval and maritime rescue teams successfully identified the aircraft wreckage following a coordinated search involving naval and air assets.

The authority said rescue efforts remain underway to locate the five crew members who were on board at the time of the incident.

“Pakistan Navy and PMSA vessels, supported by aerial surveillance, continue to comb the search area for additional evidence and any possible survivors,” added the PAA statement.

The statement did not disclose the cause of the aircraft's disappearance, and an investigation is expected to begin after the recovery operation is completed.

According to AFP, the authorities said all available resources have been deployed to support the ongoing search mission.

“Further updates will be issued as the operation progresses and more information becomes available regarding the fate of the crew and the circumstances surrounding the cargo plane's disappearance.”
