ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned twin bombing in Bannu, a city in northwestern Pakistan, on Saturday.
The explosion occurred in the Phang Musa Khel area of Bannu district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Sharif expressed sorrow over the attack. "Terrorism is a heinous conspiracy against humanity, peace and stability of Pakistan," he said. The prime minister stated that "such cowardly acts can never shake the resolve of the nation."
PM Sharif said those responsible will be “prosecuted” and “punished to the fullest extent of the law.” He vowed that "the blood of martyrs will not go in vain" and pledged the government will continue its fight against terrorism until it is eradicated.
Meanwhile, President Zardari expressed condolences to families of those killed, as reported by the President’s Office. He warned against "internal and external handlers of terrorism providing safe havens, logistical support, and financial assistance."
The president said terrorist groups were trying to “undermine Pakistan's diplomatic efforts” and “regional peace initiatives.”
The government directed authorities to provide medical treatment to the injured and launch an immediate investigation.
