ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has called for an immediate and complete cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, a return to diplomacy and the resumption of sincere and structured dialogue to end the prolonged conflict, said a statement from the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN on Tuesday.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Ukraine, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed deep concern over the escalating scale and intensity of attacks and their devastating impact on civilian populations.
“We deplore the escalation, the scale and intensity of attacks carried out by the parties on multiple fronts, upending lives and livelihoods in the affected regions,” he said.
The ambassador also voiced concern over reported attacks targeting critical energy and food supply infrastructure, saying such strikes were worsening already fragile global food and energy security and affecting people far beyond the conflict zone.
Pakistan regretted the loss of civilian lives, damage to civilian infrastructure, and reported targeting of humanitarian actors and related facilities.
“The protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel and civilian infrastructure is a fundamental obligation under International Humanitarian Law, and one that all parties must respect,” Asim Iftikhar said.
He warned that violations of international humanitarian law could fuel further escalation, worsen human suffering and diminish prospects for lasting peace.

Referring to Pakistan’s support for US-tabled UN Security Council Resolution 2774 in February 2025, the envoy said that Islamabad had repeatedly advocated earnest and meaningful dialogue to achieve durable peace and stability in the region.
“This entails eschewing the quest for a military solution,” he said, reiterating Pakistan’s call for an immediate and complete ceasefire, a return to diplomacy and the resumption of sincere and structured dialogue.
Pakistan maintained that a mutually acceptable, peaceful settlement, consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, the legitimate security interests of all sides, and relevant multilateral agreements, remained the only viable path to lasting peace.
“Pakistan will continue to support all endeavors aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, durable and peaceful resolution of this conflict,” the ambassador said.
