ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Wednesday to discuss regional developments and issues of mutual interest, the Saudi foreign ministry said.
Earlier in the day, according to a state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi Cabinet — headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — welcomed the immediate ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan “and the establishment of mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability between the two countries.”
It affirmed support for regional and international efforts to achieve security and peace worldwide, SPA reported.
The Saudi Cabinet's statement comes amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul over the presence of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan and a recent surge in terrorist activity targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians.
