ISLAMABAD: The state of Palestine on Tuesday welcomed the United Nations Security Council's adoption of a US-drafted resolution on Gaza, calling for a ceasefire and steps toward a Palestinian state.

In a statement issued by its foreign office, the Palestinian Authority supported for the resolution, which calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, and recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

It also supports the establishment of a Palestinian state, with a focus on the two-state solution.

The Palestinian Authority called for immediate action to implement the resolution, ensuring a return to normal life in Gaza, preventing displacement, securing the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, and starting reconstruction efforts. It also noted the importance of preventing actions that undermine the two-state solution or facilitate annexation.

It also said it was ready to work with the US, the UN, Arab and Islamic states, the European Union, and other partners to carry out the resolution and end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. It said it is prepared to take full responsibility for Gaza, considering it part of the state of Palestine.

The statement thanked all countries willing to support Palestinian efforts toward ending the occupation and achieving independence, based on a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict.

The resolution follows US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and establishes the "Board of Peace," a transitional body overseeing Gaza until 2027. It also authorizes the deployment of a Temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to protect civilians, secure aid, and assist in Gaza's demilitarization. The ISF's effectiveness depends on the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Trump praised the resolution, calling it “one of the biggest approvals in UN history,” stating that it would lead to “further peace all over the world.”
