ISLAMABAD: The interim Taliban government instructed Afghan universities to remove all books written by women. The order also banned teaching subjects like human rights, gender studies, and sexual harassment.
BBC reported that more than 600 titles were pulled, including science and literature books written by female authors. The Taliban claimed these subjects go against their interpretation of Islamic law.
The order is the latest in a series of restrictions which the Taliban have brought in since returning to power four years ago. Earlier the Taliban had blocked girls from going to school beyond 6th grade, followed by completely banning women from universities. Just this month, internet was also cut in several provinces to prevent 'immorality'.
The restrictions have left many women without education or work. For Afghan women, hopes of returning to education keep fading.
