ISLAMABAD: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has welcomed Pakistan's progress in restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing key economic reforms during a meeting with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb in Washington, DC.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Bessent said he discussed with the finance minister the importance of sustaining Pakistan's reform momentum to promote durable economic growth, strengthen economic self-reliance and help position the country for a successful return to international capital markets.
"Yesterday, I met with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb. I welcomed Pakistan's progress in restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing key economic reforms," Bessent wrote.
According to Pakistan's Ministry of Finance, Aurangzeb briefed the US Treasury Secretary on Pakistan's transition from macroeconomic stabilization to sustainable, export-led growth, while highlighting the economy's vulnerability to regional geopolitical developments.
The finance minister also sought greater US support for Pakistan's path to international capital markets, supported by improved access to global financing, higher foreign exchange reserves and stronger sovereign credit ratings.
The ministry said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation, encouraging greater US investment and advancing strategic projects.
