Visakhapatnam: India got off to a strong start against South Africa in the tenth match of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
South Africa won the toss and elected to field on a pitch considered as favorable for batting, although damp conditions earlier in the day suggested some assistance for seam bowlers. Rain and covers delayed the start, but the ground staff ensured the pitch and outfield were playable for the day/night 50-over match.
Indian openers start off to great start
Opening batter Pratika Rawal opened to a confident start for India with 8 runs off 6 balls, including two boundaries. Rawal exploited scoring opportunities, driving sharply between cover point and backward point.
Smriti Mandhana was yet to face a ball early in the innings. South Africa’s leading pace bowler Marizanne Kapp bowled the opening over, conceding 8 runs but maintaining pressure.
India holds third position with two wins from two matches, while South Africa stands fifth with one win and one loss. Australia and England lead the points table as the tournament progresses.
