ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday concluded his visit to Shanghai, where he attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to closer cooperation with China, and held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

In a post on X, FM Dar thanked the Chinese government and leadership for their hospitality and praised President Xi Jinping's keynote address at the conference's opening ceremony.

Quoting Xi, Dar said artificial intelligence was "an invaluable asset that accumulates the collective wisdom of humanity," adding that the technology carried both "immense promise and a shared responsibility to ensure it serves the common good."

The FM said his discussions with Wang reaffirmed the two countries' commitment to advancing the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, with a particular focus on high-quality development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0.

He said the two sides reviewed progress on key projects, including the Siah Diq mining project, the Karakoram Highway (KKH) Realignment Project and other priority areas of bilateral cooperation agreed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's official visit to China in May 2025.

According to the statement, Dar and Wang also discussed regional and global developments. Both sides “reaffirmed their resolve to maintain close coordination and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest’

FM Dar thanked members of the Pakistani delegation, including Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and other officials, as well as Pakistan's mission in China and the Consulate General in Shanghai for supporting the visit.

He said he had returned to Islamabad ahead of "an important next week of diplomatic engagements and other official responsibilities."
