ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-backed candidates have won key positions in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) elections, held during the body's Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

The ACC said its members unanimously elected Khalid Al Zarooni, vice president of the Emirates Cricket Board, as vice president of the Council.

Representatives from Qatar, Singapore, the Maldives and Bahrain were also elected to the ACC Executive Board for the 2026–2028 term.

The meeting also approved the inclusion of the Afghanistan Cricket Board in the roster of Full Member boards eligible to assume the ACC presidency. The position previously rotated among Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India.

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi said the decisions reflected the Council's commitment to stronger governance and collective development of cricket across Asia.

The meeting, attended by all ACC member countries, also approved the formation of committees covering governance, administration, cricket development, competitions and finance.
