He further said that Pakistan always desired peace, but peace cannot rest on denial, violation of international law and unilateralism.&nbsp; &ldquo;Durable stability in South Asia requires the peaceful settlement of disputes, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,&rdquo; he explained. Ambassador Iftikhar assured that Pakistan will continue to promote dialogue, diplomacy, cooperation and peaceful coexistence, guided by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.&nbsp; &ldquo;This commitment was also reflected in the Pakistan-led, unanimously adopted Security Council Resolution 2788 on strengthening mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes in July 2025.

ISLAMABAD:&nbsp;Pakistan at the United Nations on Tuesday said that children &ldquo;living under foreign&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/un-says-israeli-actions-raising-ethnic-cleansing-fears-in-west-bank-gaza" target="_blank">occupations</a>&rdquo; are especially vulnerable to human rights abuses and violence, as the country joined about 20 nations condemning Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territory.&nbsp; First Secretary Zulfiqar Ali from Pakistan&rsquo;s Permanent Mission to the United Nations said that &ldquo;as the most vulnerable victims of armed conflict,&rdquo; children bore &ldquo;its deepest and most enduring scars.&rdquo;&nbsp; While speaking at the United Nations Security Council meeting, the first secretary said that the recent&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/israel-conducting-gradual-de-facto-annexation-of-west-bank-un-official" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">surge</a>&nbsp;in violence has exposed children to &ldquo;multiple grave violations,&rdquo; robbing them &ldquo;not only of safety, but of childhood itself.&rdquo; &ldquo;Pakistan echoes the concerns expressed in the Secretary General&rsquo;s last report, which details 41,370 grave violations against children in 2024,&rdquo; Ali said.&nbsp; He added that children living under foreign occupations were particularly vulnerable to human rights abuses and violence.&nbsp; &ldquo;In Occupied Palestinian Territory &mdash; both in Gaza and the West Bank &mdash; countless children have been killed or scarred for life,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp; Separately, the plight of children in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was regrettably omitted despite the worsening situation after India&rsquo;s illegal and unilateral measures of August 5, 2019. &nbsp; &ldquo;This selective omission risks obscuring the full scale of violations affecting children in situations of foreign occupation,&rdquo; the first secretary said, reminding the council that the &ldquo;unprovoked and unlawful&rdquo; Indian aggression in May last year resulted in the &ldquo;martyrdom of 15 children, among other civilian casualties.&rdquo; Pakistan joins global condemnation&nbsp;Separately, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/nearly-20-nations-slam-israels-west-bank-moves-towards-de-facto-annexation" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">joined</a>&nbsp;the condemnation of Israel&#39;s recent moves to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/top-israeli-minister-pushes-for-emigration-of-west-bank-gaza-palestinians" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">tighten</a>&nbsp;its control over the occupied West Bank. The new notice, NOTAM A0096/26, covers both the Karachi and Lahore flight information regions, which make up the country&rsquo;s airspace. It replaces a previous directive that was set to expire on Feb. 23. Indian carriers have been forced to reroute flights along longer paths. Westbound flights from cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad now take a southern route over the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman, passing through the United Arab Emirates or Oman before continuing to Europe, the UK, or North America. Some northern routes now pass through Chinese and Central Asian airspace. The rerouting has increased flight times and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.pakistantv.com/article/crash-pakistan-airspace-ban-push-air-india-toward-16-billion-annual-loss" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);" rel="noopener noreferrer">operational costs</a>&nbsp;due to extra fuel stops.&nbsp;Indian airlines, particularly Air India, report fuel costs rising by up to 29% and estimated monthly losses of roughly $500 million. Pakistan and India have closed their airspaces to each other since tensions rose in late April 2025 following an attack in Pahalgam, in India-occupied Kashmir. New Delhi accused Islamabad of backing the attack, which Pakistan denied while offering a neutral probe. The two countries briefly fought their fiercest military engagement in decades in early May 2025, with Pakistan downing several Indian jets.

ISLAMABAD: India has approved the Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project on the Chenab River in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), a move that violates the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), which governs water sharing between Pakistan and India.&nbsp;The construction on the project, estimated to cost about 327.7 billion Indian rupees (about $3.65 billion), is expected to begin early next year and will be developed by India&rsquo;s state-run &nbsp;National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited. She listed Sawalkot, Ratle, Bursar, Pakal Dul, Kwar, Kiru and Kirthai-1 and 2 among the projects, adding that Dulhasti Stage-II was part of the same strategy. &#39;Weaponization of water&#39;She warned the &ldquo;weaponization of water&rdquo; would deepen tensions in an already strained bilateral relationship. &ldquo;This is neither sane nor acceptable in a region on the frontlines of climate change and environmental stress,&rdquo; she said.&nbsp;The approval comes amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors over disputed Kashmir. Pakistan has said it remains committed to the Indus Waters Treaty and will continue to participate in dispute-resolution mechanisms, including proceedings before neutral experts. In August, the Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled that India must allow the waters of the western rivers to flow for Pakistan&rsquo;s use, according to Pakistan&rsquo;s Foreign Office.&nbsp;Dulhasti Stage-II will use existing infrastructure from the 390-MW Dulhasti Stage-I plant, commissioned in 2007. Under the plan, water from the Marusudar River will be diverted through the Pakal Dul project to boost power generation, a move Indian authority have acknowledged could alter natural river flows downstream.&nbsp;India maintains that its hydropower projects comply with treaty provisions and has sought changes to streamline approval procedures. The treaty does not allow either country to unilaterally suspend or terminate the agreement.

Indian media says the construction on the project is expected to begin early next year and will be developed by India’s state-run NHPC Limited.
