TORONTO: Canada announced Friday that it is relocating non-essential diplomatic staff and their dependents from Tel Aviv, due to ongoing tensions in the region as the US weighs striking Iran.

“Global Affairs Canada has made the decision to temporarily relocate non-essential employees and dependents from Tel Aviv,” the department said, noting that operations at Canada’s embassy in Israel would continue uninterrupted.

Canadian diplomatic staff and their families in Lebanon and Palestine will remain in place, according to the statement. “Canadian staff and their dependents in Lebanon and Palestine remain in place, and our missions continue to operate normally,” the government said.

“Canadians in Iran should leave now if they can do so safely,” the statement added.
