LONDON: England defeated India by 27 runs in a run-fest after posting a formidable 387-3 and restricting the visitors to 360-7 in their 50 overs.
Ben Duckett starred with a superb 141 off 135 balls, while Jacob Bethell made 91 to lay the foundation for England's imposing total. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74 from just 48 deliveries, and Jos Buttler provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 41 off 13 balls.
Duckett and Bethell put on 192 runs for the opening wicket before India fought back through Prasidh Krishna, who claimed 2-69. Prince Yadav dismissed Duckett after the opener had struck 18 fours and a six.
Chasing a challenging target of 388, India mounted a strong response through Rohit Sharma, who smashed 138 off 110 balls, featuring 17 fours and five sixes. Captain Shubman Gill contributed 77, while Virat Kohli added 74 to keep India in contention.
However, England regained control in the closing stages as Sam Curran produced a match-winning spell, taking 4-75. Curran removed Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Kohli and Axar Patel to derail India's chase after they had reached 304-3.
Jofra Archer claimed the wicket of KL Rahul, while Adil Rashid trapped Gill leg before wicket and Bethell dismissed Rohit to end the opener's outstanding innings.
India finished on 360-7 after 50 overs, falling 27 runs short despite three batsmen scoring half-centuries, as England secured victory in one of the highest-scoring ODIs between the two sides.
