ISLAMABAD: Islamabad and Yerevan began diplomatic relations with after Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presented his Letters of Credence to President Vahagn Khachaturyan, making Pakistan's first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia.
Last year in August, the two countries formally exchanged a Joint Communiqué in August, thereby establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
At a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan on Friday, President Khachaturyan welcomed Ambassador Khan and congratulated him on his appointment.
The president conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure and the effective discharge of Ambassador Khan's diplomatic responsibilities.
"The President expressed his readiness to support efforts to further develop Armenia–Pakistan relations and to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest," Pakistan's embassy in UAE said in a post on X.
Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to President Khachaturyan and reaffirmed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
"The two sides underscored the significant potential for expanding bilateral engagement, particularly in trade and investment, education, culture, people-to-people contacts, and other areas of economic cooperation," the statement said.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met Ambassador Khan and congratulated him on his appointment, wishing him success in the discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities.
The two sides also reviewed the bilateral agenda, discussed avenues for expanding cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
Ambassador Khan’s engagements in Yerevan reaffirmed the commitment of Pakistan and Armenia to advancing bilateral relations and provided an opportunity to identify new avenues for cooperation across a broad range of mutually beneficial areas, the embassy said.
