ISLAMABAD: An Indian-origin teenager has been charged with murdering his mother and younger brother at their home in Acton, Massachusetts (USA), after investigators uncovered what prosecutors described as disturbing online searches involving fantasies about killing his family.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan told reporters that seventeen-year-old Arjun Aravind faces two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his 45-year-old mother, Sudha Venkatesan, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind.
She further said, “Police were called to the family’s Martha Lane home on Tuesday evening after Arjun’s father reported that he could not reach his family. A tutor who was due to visit the house had also been unable to contact anyone.”
“Police found both victims dead inside the home.
Authorities said both had suffered “obvious trauma”, while the exact cause and manner of death remained pending examination by the chief medical examiner.
Arjun was reportedly missing when officers arrived and was believed to have left in his mother’s green Honda Accord. After an overnight search, he was located early Wednesday in the vehicle in a Wayland parking lot when police responded to an unrelated alarm.
He was taken into custody without incident, according to WBZ NewsRadio.
The case took a more disturbing turn when investigators examined the teenager’s recent online activity. Marian Ryan said that Arjun had been displaying “concerning behavior” and had used the internet and ChatGPT to explore stories or fantasies involving the killing of his family.
She further said, “The investigation has so far shown that Arjun had recently been demonstrating some concerning behavior.”
She added that this included using the internet and ChatGPT to search for “theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family.”
