Pakistan committed to strengthening cooperation with Muslim World League: PM Sharif

Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bi Abdulkarim Al-Issa calls on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on July 13 , 2026 (PMO, Islamabad).

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Muslim World League (MWL) during talks with the League's Secretary General, Sheikh Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, at the Prime Minister's House.


A statement released from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Islamabad on Monday said that the prime minister praised the Muslim World League for promoting the true and moderate image of Islam, strengthening unity among the Muslim Ummah and advancing the values of tolerance, fraternity and interfaith harmony around the world.


“He highlighted the importance of the MWL's efforts in promoting religious dialogue to address challenges facing the Muslim world, including the regional situation involving Iran and the Gulf states, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and issues confronting Muslim communities worldwide.”


Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Members of the National Assembly Farah Naz Akbar and Zeb Jaffar, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch attended the meeting. Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al Malky accompanied the MWL chief.


Welcoming Dr Al-Issa, the prime minister thanked him for participating in the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women held in Islamabad on July 12-13.


PM Sharif also commended Dr Al-Issa's leadership in expanding the League's global outreach and reiterated Pakistan's continued support for its initiatives.


The prime minister also conveyed his respectful regards to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and extended his best wishes to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.


Dr Al-Issa thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and praised Pakistan's leadership role in the Muslim world.


He reaffirmed the Muslim World League's commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in religious, educational and humanitarian sectors.


The MWL secretary general also appreciated the prime minister's role in recent regional peace efforts and acknowledged the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir toward the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.


The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination on shared priorities and expedite the implementation of ongoing joint projects and initiatives between Pakistan and the Muslim World League.
