ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed Madinah for Pakistan on Saturday after completing his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, during which Islamabad, Riyadh, and Ankara reached a defense agreement, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
Governor of Madinah Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud bid farewell to the prime minister and the Pakistani delegation at Madinah Airport, the PM Office said in a post on X.
During his visit, PM Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, aimed at strengthening defense cooperation and fraternal ties among the three countries.
Visit to Prophet's Mosque
Earlier on Saturday, PM Sharif visited the Prophet's Mosque and offered prayers at Riaz Al-Jannah, praying for Pakistan's development and prosperity, a separate statement from the Prime Minister's Office in Islamabad said on Saturday.
The prime minister had arrived in Jeddah on Thursday for a three-day official visit and was received by Saudi Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz and Pakistan's Ambassador Ahmad Farooq.
On Friday, PM Sharif and his delegation performed Umrah and were granted access to the Holy Kaaba. Later, he met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Safa Palace to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments.
The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
The Foreign Office said that the visit reflected the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, anchored in "decades of mutual trust, cooperation and brotherhood."
The two countries have advanced cooperation on security, investment, and economic collaboration, including development of an international-standard cricket stadium in Jeddah.
