Pakistan president, PM pay tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi on 10th death anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid tribute to legendary humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi on his 10th death anniversary, praising his lifelong service to humanity and describing his legacy as a lasting source of inspiration for the nation.


In separate messages, the country's top leadership honored Edhi's unwavering commitment to helping the poor, vulnerable and marginalized, saying his selfless humanitarian work continues to guide future generations.


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said personalities like Edhi serve as role models for young people, demonstrating that every individual can play a constructive role in bringing about social reform.


He described Edhi as a national asset whose lifelong dedication to public welfare highlighted the importance of compassion in addressing social challenges.


The prime minister said Edhi's services promoted values of empathy, tolerance and social harmony, adding that his contributions would always remain an integral part of Pakistan's social fabric. He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.


President Asif Ali Zardari said Abdul Sattar Edhi embodied service, compassion and humanity, dedicating his entire life to alleviating the suffering of the poor, abandoned and forgotten.


He noted that through the Edhi Foundation, Edhi established the world's largest volunteer ambulance service, along with an extensive network of shelters, orphanages and free meal centers that continue to provide hope and support to millions of people.


The president said Edhi's humanitarian mission transcended all distinctions of caste, creed and religion, making him an enduring symbol of national pride.


He said the late philanthropist's legacy remains a beacon for promoting empathy, charity and human dignity, urging the nation to carry forward his mission of serving humanity.


President Zardari also prayed that Allah Almighty grant Abdul Sattar Edhi the highest place in Jannah.
