ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb met representatives of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), where he said, "We seek robust cooperation from the DFC in priority sectors including energy, information technology (IT), infrastructure, minerals, food, and agriculture."
The finance minister welcomed "the DFC's special focus on key sectors such as ports, telecommunications, IT, energy, minerals, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and supply chain development", according to Pakistan's Finance Ministry.
He said, "The DFC's focus on these sectors is aligned with the Government of Pakistan's development priorities."
The minister also invited "the DFC team to visit Pakistan, identify viable investment projects, and engage with relevant stakeholders to explore business opportunities in these sectors."
Meeting with Scott Bessent
In a separate meeting, Aurangzeb met his US counterpart, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
During the meeting, the finance minister "briefed the US treasury secretary on Pakistan's journey from achieving macroeconomic stability toward sustainable, export-led growth."
He also "highlighted the adverse impact of the regional situation on Pakistan's economy."
The finance minister said Pakistan seeks "US support in improving access to international capital markets, strengthening foreign exchange reserves, and enhancing market access through improved sovereign credit ratings."
Both sides "reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation, increasing US investment in Pakistan, and ensuring progress on strategic initiatives."
