ISLAMABAD: Head of Pakistan TV, Adil Shahzeb has said that Pakistan's leadership played a pivotal role in securing a diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran through months of tireless efforts, culminating in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

He said technical-level negotiations between US and Iranian delegations are expected to begin in Switzerland on Friday as the next phase of engagement between the two countries gets underway.

Speaking live from Bürgenstock, Switzerland, Shahzeb said the agreement had been signed electronically by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, US President Donald Trump and the President of Iran.

He said delegations from both countries are already present in Switzerland and are preparing for technical-level talks that are highly likely to commence on Friday.

Shahzeb described the signing of the Islamabad MOU as a major diplomatic achievement for Pakistan, saying the sustained efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other senior officials helped make the breakthrough possible despite decades of tensions between Washington and Tehran.

He said Pakistan's leadership worked tirelessly over recent months to facilitate dialogue and bring the two sides to the negotiating table, creating an opportunity for continued engagement and peace efforts.
