WASHINGTON: Elon Musk announced Saturday a plan to make chips for artificial intelligence, robotics and data centers in space, in the latest bold project by the world&#39;s richest person. The &quot;Terafab&quot;, a manufacturing facility based near Austin, Texas, will aim to produce one terawatt of computing power per year, Musk said. A terawatt is equivalent to one trillion watts. That is slightly less than the total power generation capacity of the United States, according to an industry group. Musk said the project would be run jointly by his electric-vehicle firm Tesla and his rocket company SpaceX. He did not disclose the initial investment. Previous US media reports have put the figure between $20 billion and $25 billion. Musk, who has no prior experience in semiconductors, said the Terafab was necessary because Tesla and SpaceX&#39;s demand for computing power was expected to far exceed that of global chip suppliers. &quot;We&#39;re very grateful to our existing supply chain, to Samsung, TSMC, Micron, and others... but there&#39;s a maximum rate at which they&#39;re comfortable expanding,&quot; Musk said. &quot;That rate is much less than we would like... and we need the chips, so we&#39;re going to build the Terafab.&quot; An &quot;advanced technology fab&quot; in Austin will have the facilities to design, manufacture, test and improve each chip, Musk said. GENEVA: A strike on a hospital in Sudan killed 64 people and wounded 89 others, the World Health Organization said Saturday, with 13 children counted among the dead. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the attack on Friday hit El-Daein Teaching Hospital in the state capital of East Darfur, adding that &quot;enough blood has been spilled&quot; and it was time to stop the nearly three-year conflict ravaging Sudan. The hospital &quot;was struck, killing at least 64 people, including 13 children, two female nurses, one male doctor, and multiple patients,&quot; he announced on X. Sudanese rights group Emergency Lawyers reported that the hospital was hit by an army drone strike. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces dominate the vast Darfur region in western Sudan, while Sudan&#39;s army is in control of the east, center and north. Tedros said eight health staff were among the wounded in Friday&#39;s attack, which damaged the hospital&#39;s paediatric, maternity, and emergency departments. The WHO&#39;s Surveillance System for Attacks on Health Care (SSA) counts and verifies such attacks, but it does not attribute blame as it is not an investigative agency. The United Nations&#39; humanitarian office in Sudan said it was &quot;appalled by the attack.&quot; To the repeated condemnation of the UN, hospitals have been a regular target throughout the war, which erupted in April 2023. As a result of Friday&#39;s tragedy, the total number of people killed in attacks on health care in the conflict has now passed 2,000. The WHO&#39;s SSA site showed 2,036 people have now been killed in 213 such attacks. &quot;Beyond the devastating human toll, attacks on health care have immediate and long-term consequences for communities already in desperate need of both emergency and routine medical services,&quot; said Tedros. &quot;Health care should never be a target. US media reported that Mueller died late Friday, citing a family statement, without specifying a location or cause. Trump responded quickly on Truth Social, writing: &quot;Robert Mueller just died. European nations decry 'increasing settler terror' in West Bank

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has stressed that terrorists operating from sanctuaries across the border in Afghanistan will not be allowed to undermine Pakistan&rsquo;s security. The CDF made the remarks during his visit to Kurram, where he spent Eid-ul-Fitr with troops and officers, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday. He offered Eid prayers with soldiers and prayed for the country&rsquo;s peace, stability and prosperity. Interacting with officers and troops, the CDF extended Eid greetings and praised their high morale, professionalism and unwavering commitment in safeguarding the nation. He commended the troops for their performance in Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, noting that the operation is focused on dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring lasting peace in border regions. Reaffirming Pakistan&rsquo;s stance, the CDF said Afghan soil must not be used by hostile elements to carry out activities against Pakistan, while underscoring the country&rsquo;s commitment to regional peace and stability. Paying tribute to the martyrs, he said the success of ongoing operations is rooted in the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and the determination of officers and jawans. He also expressed pride in the troops&rsquo; steadfastness and reiterated the armed forces&rsquo; resolve to defend Pakistan&rsquo;s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Upon arrival, the CDF was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar, the ISPR said.

DHAKA: Bangladesh is pushing to secure loans of around $2 billion from multilateral agencies for tackling energy security concerns amid soaring global fuel prices driven by the Mideast war. The government has already taken several measures to curb fuel consumption, including halting production at most fertiliser factories. The government has now adopted a three-pronged approach to ensure sustainable energy supply, the prime minister&#39;s finance and planning advisor Rashed Al Titumir said Saturday. &quot;Part of that is securing loans,&quot; Titumir told AFP. &quot;The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has committed $1.3 billion, while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has pledged $500 million as budget support,&quot; Al Titumir said, adding the government was pursuing the loans for early disbursement. The government may also approach the World Bank. &quot;As we want to keep foreign currency reserves intact, we have limited options other than seeking loans,&quot; Al Titumir said. The government is also exploring alternatives for sourcing energy from &quot;North America, South America or Africa&quot;. &quot;We are exploring all available options for alternative energy sources,&quot; Al Titumir said. Bangladesh -- which imports 95 percent of its oil and gas needs -- has not raised electricity and fuel prices despite the global surge. Most crude fuel is sourced from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, while around 35 percent of gas supply also comes from the Middle East. An attack on a site at Qatar&#39;s Ras Laffan LNG hub could disrupt gas supply, given the country&#39;s reliance on the facility. Since the outbreak of the Mideast war, authorities have taken several measures to curb fuel consumption. These include setting limits on fuel purchases, halting production at most fertiliser factories, deploying police to patrol filling stations, and using the navy to escort LNG shipments.
