CNN and other U.S. media reported that Trump was unharmed.&nbsp;The White House press pool said an alleged shooter was in custody, citing the Secret Service, though the report was not immediately officially confirmed. BEIRUT: &nbsp;Israeli strikes in Lebanon killed six people Friday, the Lebanese health ministry said, despite an ongoing ceasefire in the more than six-week war between Israel and Hezbollah.&nbsp;&quot;The Israeli enemy&#39;s airstrikes on southern Lebanon today, April 24, resulted in the martyrdom of six citizens and the injury of two others,&quot; the ministry said in a statement.&nbsp;Two people were killed in Wadi al-Hujair, two were killed in Touline, and one each in Srifa and Yater, all in southern Lebanon, the ministry said.&nbsp;The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, also announced on Friday that an Indonesian blue helmet died in a hospital of wounds suffered on March 29 in an attack on his base.&nbsp;UNIFIL said at the time of the March 29 attack that one Indonesian soldier was killed and another wounded.&nbsp;A preliminary investigation by the UN found that an Israeli tank shell killed the soldier.&nbsp;Earlier Friday, the Israeli army said it had killed six people in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, which saw intense fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah for days leading up to the April 17 ceasefire.&nbsp;The Israeli army said all six people killed in Bint Jbeil were fighters with the pro-Iran armed group Hezbollah.&nbsp;It was not clear whether the deaths announced by the Lebanese health ministry were related to those claimed by Israel.&nbsp;Israeli attacks have killed 2,491 people in Lebanon since the start of the war on March 2, according to Lebanon&#39;s health ministry.

UNITED NATIONS: Signatories of the landmark nuclear non-proliferation treaty will meet at the UN from Monday as hopes fade that they can reach an agreement and tensions soar between the atomic powers. In 2022, during the last review of the treaty that is considered the cornerstone of non-proliferation, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned humanity was &ldquo;one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation.&rdquo; The situation has only worsened since then. &ldquo;I think there is a shared, if you will, sense of crisis by all states parties,&rdquo; said Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t have any bilateral arms control agreements between the two largest nuclear weapon states,&rdquo; she said, referring to the February expiration of the New Start treaty between Moscow and Washington. &ldquo;We are also beginning to see quantitative increase in nuclear capabilities in all nuclear-weapon states.&rdquo; Nakamitsu said that mounting geopolitical tensions had halted the post-Cold War trend of disarmament. The nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT), signed by almost all the countries on the planet &mdash; with notable exceptions like Israel, India, and Pakistan &mdash; aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, to promote complete disarmament, and to encourage cooperation on civilian nuclear projects. The nine nuclear-armed states &mdash; Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea &mdash; possessed 12,241 nuclear warheads in January 2025, according to the latest report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). The United States and Russia hold nearly 90 percent of nuclear weapons globally and have carried out major programs to modernize them in recent years, according to SIPRI. China has also rapidly increased its nuclear stockpile, SIPRI said, with the G7 raising the alarm Friday over Moscow and Beijing boosting their nuclear capabilities. The ongoing war in Ukraine, Iran&rsquo;s nuclear program and the war there, non-nuclear states&rsquo; fears over proliferation and North Korea&rsquo;s developing arsenal could all be deal-breakers. If there is a third consecutive failure, the treaty &ldquo;might not implode overnight&rdquo; said Christopher King, the conference&rsquo;s secretary-general. But there is a risk &ldquo;it will, over time, unravel.&rdquo; Artificial intelligence could be a prominent issue as some countries call for all sides to keep human control over nuclear weapons.

Pakistan president arrives in China for talks on CPEC, economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday reaffirmed support for sustained diplomacy and regional peace, as Pakistan stepped up efforts to maintain momentum following recent Iran-related negotiations in Islamabad. The 50-minute call comes at a sensitive stage in regional diplomacy, after weeks of conflict between Iran and the United States disrupted energy flows, pushed oil prices sharply higher and rattled global markets. A fragile ceasefire brokered through Pakistan&rsquo;s mediation earlier this month created space for talks aimed at reducing tensions. During the conversation, Pakistani premier thanked Tehran for sending a high-level delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad for talks on April 11-12, and welcomed Araghchi&rsquo;s recent Friday visit to Pakistan for consultations on regional developments. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the satellite was launched by Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, reflecting Pakistan&rsquo;s continued progress toward technological advancement and greater self-reliance in the space sector. In an official statement, the Foreign Office described the launch as &ldquo;a significant milestone in Pakistan&rsquo;s space program,&rdquo; saying it underscores the country&rsquo;s commitment to advancing indigenous space technologies. The EO-3 satellite carries experimental payloads designed to validate next-generation space systems, including a multi-geometry imaging module, an advanced energy storage system, and an onboard artificial intelligence-powered data processing unit for &ldquo;real-time analysis and decision support.&rdquo; Officials said the satellite will significantly enhance Pakistan&rsquo;s Earth observation capabilities by improving data continuity, imaging reliability and analytical precision. ETHIOPIA: An oil tanker has been hijacked off the coast of Somalia and taken into its territorial waters, the British maritime security agency UKMTO said on Saturday. The development added to risks for navigating in the Red Sea, which has become a more important supply route given the Iranian stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Gulf, on the other side of the Arabian Peninsula. The tanker was seized northeast of the Somali city of Mareeyo on Tuesday, UKMTO said. &quot;Military Authorities have reported unauthorised persons taking control of the tanker and manoeuvring the vessel 77NM (nautical miles) south within Somali territorial waters,&quot; it said. Somali authorities did not immediately respond to AFP queries about the hijacking. Somalia is an unstable Horn of Africa country in which the central government contends with a fractured federation of semi-autonomous states, as well as frequent attacks by the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab. It also opposes separatist status for Somaliland, a state whose claim of independence has been recognised only by Israel. Somalia was the launching point for many pirate attacks in the past, with a peak in 2011.
