ISLAMABAD: Borderlands 4 added new gameplay elements called Primordial Vaults. These locations contain rare loot and powerful enemies.
Players need to collect specific Vault Key Fragments to gain access, with the vaults offering some of the best loot in the game. They also provide challenging combat encounters.
Primordial Vaults and their locations
There are three Primordial Vaults in Borderlands 4. Each is located in a district area on the planet Kairos. Players need to find the required Vault Key Fragments scattered around these regions before they can enter the Vaults.
The Vault of Inceptus lies in the Dissected Plateau region. It is located on top of rocky formations. Players can reach the vault by climbing a slope within a marked area on the map. After placing the fragments into a console at the site, the Vault opens.
The Vault of Origo is found in the snowy Low Leys region. Its entrance is hidden inside a cave beyond a bridge. An Auger Shrine outside the cave marks the location. To unlock this vault, players must have collected its corresponding key fragments.
The Vault of Radix is situated in the Grindstone of the Worthy region. It is near the Rustical Hurl Order Silo fast travel point. Players travel north, cross a bridge, and go past debris to find the entrance. This vault only opens when the correct fragments are used.
Access requirements
Each Vault requires three specific Vault Key Fragments. In total, nine fragments are needed to open all three. These fragments are found in different zones and often require exploration and combat to acquire. The vault entrances appear only after players have the full set of fragments for that one.
Inside these vaults, players face difficult enemies and sometimes boss battles. The areas are designed to test player skills with unique environmental hazards and strong enemies. The loot available inside is highly sought after. It includes powerful Legendary weapons and armor not found elsewhere on Kairos.
Post-launch content and updates
The addition of Primordial Vaults fits into Gearbox Software’s broader plan for Borderlands 4 post-launch support. The developer has a roadmap that includes free content, seasonal events, and paid expansions.
Among upcoming content is Story Pack 1, scheduled for early 2026. This pack introduces C4SH, the first DLC Vault Hunter. The pack also brings new missions, bosses, a new map zone, and additional gear and cosmetics. Access to C4SH requires owning certain editions or the Story Pack itself.
Other planned content includes Bounty Packs with new challenges, an Invincible Boss mode, and rotating weekly events. The goal is to keep the player base engaged with ongoing updates.
Borderlands 4 launched on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a future Nintendo Switch 2 version planned.
