India must comply fully with Indus Waters Treaty, arbitration court orders New Delhi

ISLAMABAD: The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) has ordered India that the Indus Waters Treaty remains fully in force, and Delhi must observe its obligations under the treaty, including those relating to the design and operation of its hydroelectric projects on the Western Rivers, according to the statement. 

The court issued the award on the status of the IWT and the order on “interim measures concerning the Ratle hydro-electric plant”.
 
In a unanimous decision, the Court found that “none of these grounds” could justify suspension or termination of the Treaty.
 
"Accordingly, the Indus Waters Treaty remains fully in force, and India must observe its obligations under the Treaty, including those relating to the design and operation of its hydroelectric projects on the Western Rivers.”
