ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s customs team seized drugs worth $3.27 million in Dera Ismail Khan in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday, according to an official statement.

Customs officials said they intercepted a large quantity of crystal meth, also known as ICE, during a routine check of a passenger bus. The drugs were hidden inside three specially designed inverters on the bus. The driver and conductor were arrested, and a case was registered against them.

The narcotics weighed 15,350 grams in total (net 15,200 grams after sampling). The estimated value of the drugs is Rs910.2 million ($3.21 million). The value of the bus was Rs15 million ($53,048), bringing the total value of the seized goods to Rs925.2 million ($3.27 million).

While the narcotics were being transported to a nearby warehouse, customs staff came under attack by unidentified assailants, who opened fire on the convoy. The attack was unsuccessful.

Pakistan Army troops and police arrived quickly at the scene and provided security. They escorted the customs officials and seized narcotics to the warehouse in Dera Ismail Khan without incident.
