ISLAMABAD: Operation Shaban, launched to eliminate terrorism in Balochistan, has received international recognition, with the international current affairs magazine The Diplomat highlighting its objectives, scope, and impact.
According to the magazine, following the terrorist attack near Mangi Dam, the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan, and police launched Operation Shaban against Fitna al-Khwarij.
The publication reported that hundreds of terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khwarij and Fitna al-Hindustan were killed during ground and aerial operations conducted as part of the campaign.
Fitna al-Khwarij, described as an ally of the Afghan Taliban, and Fitna al-Hindustan had targeted security forces as well as development projects in Balochistan.
According to the publication, Operation Shaban has been designed as a long-term military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring the writ of the state in Balochistan.
Fitna al-Hindustan and its affiliated separatist groups are being targeted in southern Balochistan, while Fitna al-Khwarij is being targeted in the northern districts.
The Diplomat reported that the positive effects of the ongoing operation will be felt not only in Balochistan but also in Pakistan’s overall internal stability.
The publication said that if the operation improves the security situation and paves the way for meaningful negotiations, it would represent an important step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.
Experts said that the launch of Operation Shaban indicates that the threat posed by the terrorist groups had reached a level requiring a major military operation.
They further noted that while military operations are necessary to stabilize the situation in Balochistan, strengthening local institutions and promoting economic development are also essential.
