About the Moscow Format
Established in 2017, the Moscow Format is a regional consultation platform involving Afghanistan, Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, and several Central Asian countries.
The upcoming consultations are expected to prioritize security cooperation, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, refugee concerns, and economic efforts to stabilize Afghanistan and the broader region.
Russia will serve as a key facilitator of the Moscow Format talks, which provide a platform for dialogue and coordination among regional stakeholders, including the Taliban, who will participate as full members.
The October 7 meeting is expected to conclude with a joint statement outlining the regional participants' position on peace and cooperation in Afghanistan.
