Pakistan's field marshal, Lebanese army chief discuss regional security, defense cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, General Rodolphe Haykal, called on Pakistan's Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, where the two military leaders discussed bilateral defense cooperation, regional security developments, and avenues for strengthening military-to-military relations, said a statement.


The statement issued by Pakistan military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), added that upon his arrival at GHQ, General Haykal was presented a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent, reflecting the significance of the visit and the longstanding cordial ties between Pakistan and Lebanon.


"During the meeting, both dignitaries exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, the evolving regional security environment and prospects for further enhancing cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries," the statement added.


According to the statement, the discussions focused on expanding professional interactions, strengthening training collaboration, and deepening institutional linkages between the Pakistan Armed Forces and the Lebanese Armed Forces.


It further said that Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed the importance Pakistan attaches to its longstanding and friendly relationship with Lebanon. 


"He underscored the Pakistan Army’s commitment to broadening defence collaboration and promoting greater engagement between the military institutions of both countries."


The Field Marshal, the statement went on to say, also highlighted Pakistan’s desire to strengthen professional exchanges and cooperation in areas of training and capacity-building, aimed at further enhancing mutual understanding and operational coordination.


"General Rodolphe Haykal lauded the professionalism, operational excellence and high standards of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions towards regional peace and stability, as well as its longstanding role in international peacekeeping missions."


It further said that the Lebanese commander also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s commitment to promoting security cooperation and fostering constructive partnerships with friendly countries.


According to the statement, the visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Lebanon to strengthening bilateral defence ties and expanding military cooperation through regular engagement, professional exchanges, and institutional collaboration.
