ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy ships intercepted a suspicious vessel in the Arabian Sea and seized more than 2,800 kilograms of narcotics during a counter-narcotics operation, the navy said.
The operation was conducted by Pakistan Navy ships HUNAIN and YARMOOK during routine maritime security patrols, according to a statement from the navy. Personnel boarded the vessel after intercepting it and discovered narcotics concealed in compartments onboard.
The navy said the seized drugs had an estimated value of approximately $750 million. It did not provide further details about the type of narcotics recovered, the vessel's origin or destination, or whether any arrests were made.
The operation was carried out as part of Pakistan Navy efforts to combat illicit trafficking at sea and maintain maritime security in the region, the statement said.
Chief of the Naval Staff Adm. Naveed Ashraf commended the officers and crew of HUNAIN and YARMOOK for what the navy described as their professionalism and vigilance.
The navy said the operation demonstrated its continued commitment to protecting Pakistan's maritime interests and contributing to security at sea.
