ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Women's Netball team secured the Plate Division title at the 14th Asian Women's Netball Championship 2026 on Saturday, defeating Thailand 55-50 in the final held in Hong Kong.
Pakistan finished five goals ahead of Thailand, combining discipline and teamwork across the final. The win capped an unbeaten campaign through the Plate Division bracket.
The green shirts qualified for the final after defeating Japan in Friday's semi-final.
The victory carries significance beyond the trophy, as Pakistan’s triumph has secured the national side a place in the Cup Division of the 2028 Asian Netball Championship in Singapore, allowing the team to compete at the top level of the continental tournament.
Step up for Pakistan
The 2026 Asian Netball Championship in Hong Kong was divided into Cup and Plate divisions, with Pakistan competing in the Plate alongside Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and South Korea. The Cup featured the leading sides from across Asia, including defending champions Singapore, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India and the Maldives.
By winning the Plate, Pakistan earned promotion to the Cup Division for the next edition in Singapore in 2028.
The achievement provides the green shirts both a title and a pathway to stronger opposition at the next Asian championship.
The Pakistan Netball Federation congratulated the players, coaching staff, and officials following the victory, as the national women’s team returned from Hong Kong with the Plate Division trophy and a place among Asia’s top netball sides for the next championship.
