ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan on Saturday, during which he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Baku, pledging to deepen Pakistan-Türkiye fraternal ties into an expanded partnership, said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Accompanied by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, the prime minister met President Erdoğan on the sidelines of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day Parade.

“Pakistan remains committed to transforming our longstanding fraternal ties with Türkiye into an expanded partnership encompassing political, defense, economic, trade, investment, and people-to-people linkages,” the statement quoted PM Sharif as saying.

The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their resolve to further deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. It was also agreed that a ministerial delegation from Türkiye would visit Pakistan soon, the statement added.

Both leaders pledged to maintain close coordination on regional and international issues and expressed their shared desire to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the wider Muslim world, according to the statement.

During his visit, PM Sharif attended the fifth anniversary celebration of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day and held bilateral meetings with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and the Turkish president, reinforcing the strong ties among the three countries.

The prime minister departed Baku for Islamabad after completing the visit. At Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyubov, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin, and diplomatic staff bid farewell to the prime minister.
