ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan Police on Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police (Police Martyrs' Day), lauding their sacrifices in safeguarding the country's peace and security and reaffirming the government's commitment to further strengthen law enforcement institutions.
In separate messages issued on the occasion, both leaders said the police had rendered unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, violent extremism and crime, and described the force as a vital pillar of national security and the rule of law.
President Zardari said the brave officers and personnel of the police who embraced martyrdom for the sake of the homeland would always remain a source of pride and inspiration for the nation.
He said the police remained on the front lines in combating crime, terrorism and violent extremism, demonstrating exceptional professionalism, sound tactical skills and unwavering dedication during targeted operations against criminal and extremist networks.
The president paid special tribute to police personnel serving in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, praising their courage and decisive response during encounters with terrorists and their foreign hostile abettors.
He also acknowledged the patience and resilience of the families of police martyrs, saying their welfare and socio-economic support was a collective national responsibility.
President Zardari reiterated the resolve to further strengthen police institutions through enhanced training, modern technology and improved resources to enable officers to perform their duties with greater efficiency, confidence and honor.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the police had displayed exceptional professionalism and steadfast resolve in defending the country against terrorism, violent extremism and crime, earning the nation's deepest admiration and gratitude.
He said the sacrifices of police martyrs had played a pivotal role in protecting the lives and property of citizens, upholding the rule of law, preserving public order and reinforcing the writ of the state.
The prime minister also paid tribute to the families of the martyrs, describing their patience and resilience as an enduring part of Pakistan's national story. He assured that the government would continue to prioritize their welfare by providing quality education, healthcare and comprehensive welfare initiatives.
