ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Monday announced that a scheduled maintenance activity on submarine cables will cause internet service degradation across the country starting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on its official X, formerly Twitter, account, PTCL said the maintenance, aimed at repairing a faulty repeater, could last up to 18 hours.

Other companies, including Nayatel and the telecom operator Ufone, also notified users about the expected slowdown and disruption in connectivity due to the same maintenance work.

Popular mobile payment services, Easypaisa and JazzCash, confirmed to Pakistan TV Digital that their platforms might experience disruptions. However, the call centers of both companies said their branches and offices would remain operational.

This comes months after a similar fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar disrupted broadband services across Pakistan. PTCL had then said that the issue was resolved swiftly by technical teams.
