Pakistan showcased its textile prowess at the ATS, reaffirming its place as a global textile powerhouse, the Pakistan Information Department said earlier this week. The country’s top manufacturers displayed a wide range of high-quality fabrics and apparel at one of Canada’s famous international trade exhibitions.
The ATS show brought together textiles from North America, Asia, and beyond, featuring exhibitions from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and China. Pakistani participants particularly stood out, unveiling an impressive collection of sportswear, technical textiles, and protective apparel.
Desis shining in Canada is nothing new – and the numbers tell a compelling story. According to the 2021 Canadian Census, South Asians form 7.1% of Canada's population, with a vibrant diaspora of more than 2.5 million people.
Of these, 303,260 proudly reported Pakistani ethnic or cultural origin. These aren't just numbers; they're a testament to a thriving, dynamic community that's weaving its cultural fabric into the Canadian landscape.
Walk down any street in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal, and you'll spot the unmistakable flair of South Asian fashion – particularly Pakistani textiles. Pakistani manufacturers have become global textile titans, adhering to rigorous international standards that would make even the most demanding quality control expert nod in approval.
Take their certifications, for instance: ISO 9001 for quality management, Oeko-Tex Standard 100 ensuring textiles are free from harmful substances, GOTS certifying organic textile standards, and BSCI auditing social and ethical compliance.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) confirms the country's textile supremacy, ranking as a key supplier of home textile products to the USA and Europe.
