ISLAMABAD: International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Director of Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre, Aleksi Lumijärvi, on Thursday said that Pakistan’s solar revolution, when compared to the size of the economy, was “unique and unprecedented.”
Speaking on Pakistan TV Digital’s show South Speaks with Saqib, the IRENA director said that the boom in Pakistan’s consumption of solar energy was unprecedented “in many aspects.”
He said the growth was surprising, as the country was a lower-middle-income economy yet experienced very high adoption rates for solar energy.
He added that the country’s conversion to solar energy was also unique when compared to its per capita income.
He said Pakistan's solar boom was driven purely from "consumer driven market based changed" and that's what made it unprecedented compared to other solar booms in other countries.
