ISLAMABAD: American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has confirmed that it is preparing a revised acquisition proposal for new aircraft for Pakistan International Airlines, according to a statement shared by the Ministry of Finance on X on Wednesday.
The statement said the assurance came from Boeing Global President Dr Brendan Nelson, whom Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance, Mohammad Aurangzeb, met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
The Boeing Global president assured the minister that they would also explore options for earlier delivery of aircraft slots and interim leasing arrangements.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb welcomed Boeing’s confirmation that it would share a revised proposal with PIA and explore options for earlier delivery slots and interim leasing arrangements.
According to the statement, the discussion also covered financing support from the US Export-Import Bank, engine procurement, spare parts, maintenance and restoration of grounded aircraft.
The statement added that the minister outlined PIA’s privatization and plans to outsource the management of major airports.
PIA was privatized in December 2025 after an Arif Habib Corporation-led consortium agreed to acquire a 75% stake in it for Rs135 billion ($482 million).
The minister appreciated Boeing’s support for aviation safety capacity, regulatory engagement, and the restoration of direct flights to the United States, while underscoring Pakistan’s strong long-term aviation growth potential.
PIA has around 17 grounded aircraft out of its total fleet of roughly 34 planes, largely due to financial constraints and a shortage of spare parts.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson in July to discuss the purchase of 16 new aircraft for PIA.
